The Islas Cíes are placed in the heart of the Rías Baixas in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. Since July 2002, they are part of the Atlantic Islands Nature Reserve, together with Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada archipelagos, that are spread along the Rías Baixas.

Cíes Islands are situated in the Ría de Vigo and are a natural barrier that divide the estuary and the sea, which makes Vigo harbour to be one of the safest harbours in the world. The Islas Cíes’ archipelago is made up by three main islands: Monteagudo or Norte, Montefaro and San Martiño or Sur, and small islands such as A Agoeira or Boeiro, Penela dos Viños, Carabelos and O Ruzo.

In order to arrive at the Islas Cíes, there is a catamaran with regular shipping lines during the summertime that link Vigo, Baiona and Cangas with the archipelago.

Once the visitor arrives at the Islas Cíes quay, it is possible to enjoy a hiking and beach day or to spend the night in the camping. The camping has a capacity of 800 people, where the visitor cannot stay more than 15 days.

From the island quay, we can see the beautiful Rodas beach: a sedimentary formation that links the two islands in such a way that forms a lake between them called "Lago dos Nenos" (Children's Lake).

Beach lovers can enjoy a whole day in Rodas beach, with its crystal-clear and calm waters that have received the Blue Flag (an international exclusive voluntary eco-label for beaches and marinas). On the contrary, those who want to visit the Island have numerous routes possibilities. The most famous route is that one to Monte Faro, from this lighthouse there are spectacular views. We must not forget the remains of the Monasterio de San Estevo.

For flora and fauna lovers, these islands are like a big bird observatory and there are colonies of migratory birds such as cormorants or seagull. Other species that fly over the islands are the falcons or the butterflies. There is also a wide range of sea species that can be seen diving into the sea water. Anyway, it is a natural paradise.
